This 2D1N Trip is turtle-tastic with a side of monkey-business. Enjoy the crystal-clear waters of not on just any island, but an island that hosts one of the World’s oldest turtle hatcheries. Witness the magic of sea turtles nesting on shore and hatchlings racing out to sea in Selingan Island.

Overview of Location

Selingan Turtle Island - The Island hosts one of the oldest turtle hatcheries in the world and is one of South East Asia's most important nesting beach and breeding ground for the Green Turtle and Hawksbill Turtle. All environmental conditions on Selingan Island is made ideally safe for Sea Turtles to come and lay eggs, away from predators and all sorts of pollution such as light and noise. It is also a safe haven where baby hatchlings could be released without dangers and disorientation. Also included in this turtle-tastic destination is some fun times in the sun. Stretch out on white sandy shores or go for a snorkel with the marvelous marine life that reign the underwater world.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1

Sandakan/ Selingan Turtle Island

Pick-up time: 08:30hrs (Sepilok area) / 09:15hrs (Sandakan area)
Meet and pick up at your hotel lobby or Sandakan airport.
You will be transferred to the Sabah Park Jetty in Sandakan where you will take a 1-hour boat ride to Selingan Turtle Island. The boat departs at 10:00 Hrs.
Located only 40 kilometres from North Sandakan, you will have the opportunity to see the main nesting areas of the Green Turtles and Hawksbill Turtles.
Upon arrival, lunch will be served for you to feast!
Check in to your basic but clean accommodation. The rest of the day you are free to stretch out by the beach or jump right into the sea for a snorkel round the nearby reefs. Dinner will be served on the Island.
After dinner, a Park Ranger will inform you on the right time to encounter turtle laying their eggs along the beach. Get the chance to witness the collecting of eggs from the nestling site and into a safe hatchery and watch baby turtles scrambling out into the open sea upon their release on shore. An adorable sight not to be missed!
It’s time to hit the hay and rest up with an overnight stay at your Selingan Turtle Island Chalet.

Good morning! Enjoy your breakfast before checking out and making your way back to the mainland. If you have time before your flight, you may also visit the Sepilok Orang Utan Centre (additional cost applies).
It's time to bid your trip goodbye as you are transferred to your respective hotels or Sandakan airport.

We wanted to visit Sabah with some family and since we were not familiar with the area, we decided to get help from a local tour agency - Amazing Borneo. The agent that helped with the booking was Anthony Wong. I found him very communicative and helpful. He was able to cater for customisations that we wanted whilst also fitting us into other tour programmes. When it finally came round to our trip a couple of weeks back, we were glad that the Amazing Borneo team were at hand. We had delays and constant "retiming" of flights but the team adjusted accordingly and Anthony or someone from the operations team was available to help. In terms of the programme, the Sandakan portion was a real hit with everyone - especially the Selingan Turtle island. I thoroughly recommend it and our guide Azman/Man was brilliant. After returning home from our memorable trip to Borneo, I would like to take opportunity to thank you very much for contributing to so many beautiful moments. This trip to Selingan Island was one of the highlights of our trip. Vendon was a true gem and this humor, positive attitude and knowledge contributed to the success of this trip. THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

Please ensure you are holding air ticket to Sandakan.
If you are arriving at Sandakan Airport on the day of your tour, our friendly guide will greet and pick you up from the airport with a placard bearing your good name.
For your arrival on Day 1, please take note there is only 1 join-in boat transfer to Selingan Island departing at 1000hrs daily. Please ensure you are in Sandakan by 0900hrs for the pick-up transfer to the jetty.
In the event that you are unable to get an early morning flight, your itinerary may be revised to suit your flight arrival timing and surcharges may apply. Please check with your sales representative.
The boat journey to Selingan Island may not be suitable for individuals who have any of the following conditions but not limited to: heart or lung conditions, recent surgery, back or spinal surgery, back problems/injury/fracture, arthritis, osteoporosis or other similar spinal/pelvic diseases. Pregnant women are also not recommended as the boat ride may be bumpy depending on the sea condition. If you are having similar issues as above, kindly consult your physician before you enrol in this activity.
Standard check-in and check-out times for most hotels & resorts are 1400hrs & 1200hrs. However, check-in & check-out times may vary depending on each accommodation. So kindly check with us to get accurate check-in & check-out times of your accommodation.
On Selingan Island:
- The rooms are furnished with two single beds and basic amenities, including air conditioning, ceiling fans, private bathrooms with standing showers, and towels. Please note that hot water is not available.
- The chalets are located approximately 600 meters from the beach. As there are no porters on the island, guests are required to carry their own luggage from the boat to the chalet. For ease of travel, we recommend bringing only the essentials for your one-night stay.
- A secure locker is available at the jetty for luggage storage. Guests may leave their bags there upon arrival and collect them the following morning.
- Snorkelling equipment is not available for rent on Selingan Island. Snorkels can be purchased at the jetty for RM30.00 each, or you may bring your own snorkelling gear.
Effective as of 1st September 2017, the Tourism and Culture Ministry of Malaysia implemented a Malaysian Tourism Tax (TTX). Foreign tourists will be required to pay a flat rate of MYR 10 per room per night regardless of accommodation star level.The TTx is to be paid upon check-in. Malaysians or permanent residents residing in Malaysia are exempted from TTx and is required to present a valid identification upon check-in for the exemption.

For safety reasons, the trip may get cancelled or revert halfway if the weather or sea condition is deemed unsafe for the journey to proceed. Therefore, we do not recommend you go on this trip if it is the same day as your departure flight in the event the weather does not permit for the boat transfer to return to the mainland on the same day.
Should any unforeseen circumstances arise, we recommend you to carefully set out your own schedule with some leeway to ensure you do not miss your next activity.

NOTE FROM SABAH PARKS

Only cameras of unaided flash are allowed to photograph the turtles. This is because shining a light on them or using camera flashes can be stressful on the creatures.
Rm10 camera fee is excluded (taking photos with phone/iPad is applied for camera charges).
Visitors are forbidden from going around the island on their own from 6:00pm – 6:00am
