Tour Overview

This 3D2N Mount Kinabalu climbing package is designed for climbers who want flexibility, comfort, and the best chance of success on Southeast Asia’s highest peak. With two nights at Panalaban Basecamp, you get two chances to reach Low's Peak Summit, an important advantage in case of summit closure due to bad weather.

If you succeed on your first attempt, you’ll also enjoy a rare bonus: a full day to rest, recover, and savour the mountain environment before your descent. Unlike the standard 2D1N climb, where climbers must summit and descend on the same day, this itinerary gives you more time to adjust, meaning less sore muscles and a more comfortable descent.

The extra time also allows you to truly immerse yourself at Panalaban. Take in sweeping mountain views, photograph the dramatic granite peaks, sip a hot drink above the clouds, or even send a postcard from the world’s highest postbox. This slower pace transforms the climb into a safer, more rewarding journey through one of Sabah’s greatest natural treasures.

   

Sample Itinerary

Day 1

Kota Kinabalu / Kinabalu Park HQ / Timpohon Gate / Ascend Mount Kinabalu / Panalaban Base Camp

06:00–07:00 Hrs: Pick-up from your Kota Kinabalu hotel or airport and enjoy a scenic 2-hour drive across the Crocker Range. Along the way, soak in views of rustic villages, lush valleys, and distant mountain peaks before arriving at Kinabalu Park HQ, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and part of the Kinabalu UNESCO Global Geopark. 

08:30 Hrs: Register for your climb, meet your licensed mountain guide, and collect your ID tag and packed lunch. From here, transfer to Timpohon Gate (1,866m), the starting point of your journey to the summit of Borneo. 

09:00 Hrs: Begin your ascent through changing ecosystems. Pass by moss-draped oaks, gurgling streams, and vibrant orchids that thrive in the cool mountain air. Along the trail, stop at Carson’s Waterfall or the many rest huts along the way, where you can catch your breath while admiring the rainforest canopy below. 

15:00–16:00 Hrs: Arrive at Panalaban Base Camp (3,272m). Nestled among misty ridges, this resting point offers sweeping views of surrounding peaks and valleys. Check in to your dormitory accommodation, then relax before dinner at the Laban Rata Restaurant. Overnight at Panalaban.

Day 2

Low's Peak Summit / Panalaban Base Camp / Free & Easy

02:00 Hrs: Wake for an early supper before beginning your summit push under a blanket of stars. Using your headlamp, trek across granite trails and rope-assisted sections as you climb above the tree line. The air grows thin, but anticipation pushes you onward. 

05:30–06:00 Hrs: Reach Low’s Peak (4,095m), the crown of Mount Kinabalu and the highest point in Borneo. If weather permits, witness a spectacular sunrise as the first light breaks across the South China Sea, illuminating the jagged granite peaks of the Kinabalu massif. 

07:00 Hrs: Descend back to Panalaban for a well-earned late breakfast. With the extra night’s stay, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure. Take in sweeping views of the Crocker Range, capture stunning photographs, sip a hot drink at Laban Rata Restaurant, or even send a postcard from the world’s highest postbox. For nature lovers, explore the surrounding trails where rare pitcher plants grow and highland birds soar above the cliffs. 

Dinner is served at the restaurant before your second overnight at Panalaban, giving your body extra time to rest and recover.

Day 3

Descend Mount Kinabalu / Kinabalu Park HQ / Kota Kinabalu City

02:00 Hrs: If you wish, make a second attempt at the summit, taking advantage of your extra night at the base camp. This flexible option maximises your chance to stand atop Low’s Peak in case weather or fatigue prevented success on Day 2. 

07:00 Hrs: Breakfast at Panalaban, followed by check-out. Begin your descent back through the ecological layers of Mount Kinabalu, from alpine shrubs to mossy cloud forests, and finally the rich lowland rainforest alive with bird calls and ferns. 

13:00–15:00 Hrs: Arrive back at Timpohon Gate, where a transfer awaits to bring you to Kinabalu Park HQ. Collect your official Mount Kinabalu Climbing Certificate, a proud memento of your achievement. Enjoy a hearty lunch at the park before returning to Kota Kinabalu city (approx. 2 hours).

  • Effective 1 April 2019, the accommodation for Day 1 of this climb package will be based on Run-Of-House (ROH) basis, which means the room given is determined by provider, according to availability, at the time of check-in. A Private Twin-Share Room will be arranged in any accommodation within Kinabalu Park HQ.
  • Premier lodge upgrades are available upon request (subject to availability). 
  • Private vehicle transfers can be arranged upon request with additional top-up charges. 
  • Climbers who reach Timpohon Gate after 16:30 Hrs will be imposed a fee of MYR 15 per hour per guide and need to pay directly to mountain guide on the spot.
  • Tipping is like giving a hug. Although it’s never expected, it’s always very much appreciated.
  • Do take note that your MyKad (for Malaysian) / Passport (for Non-Malaysian) will be required for verification during registration at the Kinabalu Park office. Please bring it along with you.
  • Check-out time for Laban Rata Resthouse is 10:00 Hrs.  Should you check out later than 10:30 Hrs, a Late Check Out Fee of MYR100/hour applies, to be paid directly on the spot.
  • Effective as of 1st September 2017, the Tourism and Culture Ministry of Malaysia implemented a Malaysian Tourism Tax (TTX). Foreign tourists will be required to pay a flat rate of MYR 10 per room per night regardless of accommodation star level. The TTx is to be paid upon check-in. Malaysians or permanent residents residing in Malaysia are exempted from TTx and is required to present a valid identification upon check-in for the exemption.

Our friendly guide will meet you at your hotel lobby / greet you at the Airport arrival hall with a placard bearing your good name. Should you encounter difficulties in locating our guide, you can call our hotline number/s stated in your itinerary for further assistance.
2 We do not recommend climbers to catch your flight on the same day you descend the mountain due to possible delay from injuries, tiredness and/or bad weather and traffic conditions.
3a For 2-Day 1-Night packages, transportation will be arranged for Pick-Up from your Hotel between 06:00hrs - 07:00hrs. Our team will advise your Pick-Up time one (1) day before your departure. Kindly request your hotel for early or packed breakfast on the day of your tour.
3b For 2-Day 1-Night packages with ferrata, transportation will be arranged for Pick-Up from your Hotel between 06:00hrs - 06:45hrs. Our team will advise your Pick-Up time one (1) day before your departure. Kindly request your hotel for early or packed breakfast on the day of your tour.
4 For 3-Day 2-Nights packages and beyond, our transport can pick you up from the Kota Kinabalu International Airport, your hotel in Kota Kinabalu or the meeting point at Grandis Hotel. Pick-up time is between 12:30 hrs - 14:00 hrs, which will be predetermined by Amazing Borneo before your travel date. Any flight arrival after 14:00 hrs will incur surcharge (varies depending on your group size). Please consult your salesperson.
5 Additional charges of MYR 80 per pax are applicable for outskirt hotels pick-ups. OutSkirt Charges are applicable for Hotels in One Borneo, Putatan, and within 20km radius of Kota Kinabalu City Centre.
6 All transportations are based on Seat-In-Coach. This is a transfer service in which clients share their vehicle with other clients. This is a door-to-door service with multiple pickups & drop-offs throughout the journey. Do expect some short waiting time.
7 After descending to Kinabalu Park HQ, climbers are subject to pre-determined pickup time set by Amazing Borneo Tours with the last transport returning to Kota Kinabalu city latest by 1930hrs. We will ensure your possible wait of not more than 2 hours at Park HQ. However, if you missed the last transport (which is unlikely) or wish to depart at your own preferred timing, we can arrange a vehicle for private transfer for you (Subject to availability). Please understand that the surcharge for any private transfer will have to be borne by you.
8 Private Transfer Surcharge:- MYR 450/vehicle/way
9 Our group rates are quoted without deviation, which means we provide only one return transfers for your group. If your group requires more than one return transfers, additional transfer charges may apply.
10 Baby Car Seats (for infant aged 0-2) and Child Booster Seats (for children aged 3-11) are available for rental. Please check with your tour consultant for availability.

It is recommended that all climbers should have themselves medically checked before attempting any mountain climb. If you have a history of suffering from the following ailments, it is highly recommend that you should refrain from climbing: Hypertension, Diabetes, Palpitation, Arthritis, Heart disease, severe anemia, Peptic ulcers, Epileptic fits, Obesity (overweight), Chronic asthma, Muscular cramps, Hepatitis (jaundice); or any other disease which may hamper the climber.

Children below 15 years old must fill in the indemnity form upon registration at Park Headquarters.
