About Sepilok Nature Lodge

OVERVIEW 
Hidden amongst a veritable treasure trove of tropical plants, grasses, huge trees and spectacular orchids in bloom, the quaint bungalows of the Sepilok Nature Lodge are within walking distance of the world-famous Kabili-Sepilok Forest  Reserve, precious home of the wild orangutans of Northern Borneo.

Combining rich traditional style with contemporary luxury, Sepilok Nature Lodge is the ideal starting point for most other wildlife land destinations in Sabah, such as the fauna-rich Kinabatangan River and the surrounding Sukau area. Sepilok Nature Lodge also offers the perfect setting for relaxing after a long plane trip, before continuing on a diving holiday to Lankayan.

Sepilok Nature Resort is approximately a 40-minute drive from Sandakan airport. It is located within walking distance to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre

CHALETS
Set in a spectacularly landscaped private area of manicured lawns and rolling hills, the 23 individual chalets are surrounded by a garden which would take half a day to explore and offers amazing array of tropical plants and grasses and a collection of more  than one hundred and fifty different Asian orchid species.

FACILITIES

The resort’s main building houses the front office, tour information desk, and restaurant, all designed with a charming traditional wooden interior that creates a peaceful atmosphere. This central building offers stunning views of the lush lowland tropical rainforest, with canopies that reach heights of 80 to 120 feet, as well as a beautiful natural lake at the heart of the resort. Guests can enjoy delicious meals prepared by our chef, blending local and Western flavors, served on covered terraces that overlook the serene lake and untouched rainforest.

The Orangutan Rehabilitation Center, where dedicated staff work to help young, captive, or abandoned orangutans re-adjust to life in the wild, is just a few minutes' walk away. The nearby Sepilok Forest Reserve is also easily accessible. Additionally, our staff are happy to arrange birdwatching, trekking, and river trips to explore the surrounding areas, including the wildlife-rich Sukau area along the Kinabatangan River and Turtle Island, located off the northern coast of Sandakan.

Sample Itinerary

Day 1

Sandakan / Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre / Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre / Rainforest Discovery Centre / Sepilok nature Lodge

Pick up from Sandakan Airport on arrival. You will then be whisked away to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, where you can observe semi-wild orangutans during their feeding time at 10:00 Hrs. The Nature Education Centre offers a short video screening, enlightening visitors on the rehabilitation efforts within the reserve. Stroll along the wooden boardwalk through the lush rainforest to the feeding platform for an up-close encounter with the orangutans.

Afterwards, proceed to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, located nearby. Learn about the smallest bear species in the world and their conservation efforts, with opportunities to observe them from various viewing platforms.

Lunch will be served at a local restaurant. After lunch, explore the Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC), renowned for its canopy walkways, botanical gardens, and birdwatching opportunities.

As evening approaches, indulge in a seafood dinner at a local eatery before heading to Sepilok Nature Lodge for the night.

Sepilok Nature Lodge / Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary / Sandakan Airport

After breakfast at the lodge, embark on a journey to the Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary, a unique spot where you can observe these iconic primates in their natural mangrove habitat. Capture the fascinating behaviour of these long-nosed monkeys during their feeding sessions.

Lunch will be served at a local restaurant before transferring to Sandakan Airport for your onward journey.
