This 3D2N Sandakan and Kinabatangan experience is a relaxed way to explore some of Sabah’s best-known nature and wildlife spots. The journey blends easy walks, river cruises, and conservation visits, making it suitable for first-time visitors and nature lovers alike.

Your time in Sandakan begins with visits to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, where you will see rescued animals and learn about the efforts to protect them. A visit to the Rainforest Discovery Centre offers a different view of the forest, with canopy walkways and quiet trails surrounded by greenery.

On the second day, travel out to Gomantong Cave to explore its limestone formations and learn about the cave environment, before heading to Bilit for a Kinabatangan River cruise. Cruising along the river is a highlight of the trip, with chances to spot wildlife along the riverbanks as you take in the scenery.

The tour ends with a visit to Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary, rounding off the journey with one last wildlife encounter before departure. With overnight stays at Sabah Hotel and meals at local restaurants, this trip offers a comfortable and enjoyable introduction to Sandakan and Kinabatangan.

Day 1

Sandakan Airport / Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre / Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre / Rainforest Discovery Centre / Sabah Hotel

Arrive at Sandakan Airport and meet your guide before heading straight into Sandakan’s wildlife heartland.

Your first stop is the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, where you will witness the morning feeding session at 10:00 Hrs as semi-wild orangutans make their way out of the forest. A short presentation at the Nature Education Centre offers insight into the rehabilitation journey of these endangered primates, followed by a walk along the rainforest boardwalk to the feeding platform.

Continue to the nearby Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, where rescued sun bears roam within forested enclosures. Learn about their behaviour, threats, and the conservation efforts in place to protect the species.

After lunch at a local restaurant, spend the afternoon at the Rainforest Discovery Centre, exploring elevated walkways, botanical gardens, and forest trails that showcase Sandakan’s rich plant life and bird species.

As the day winds down, enjoy a seafood dinner at a local restaurant before transferring to Sabah Hotel for your overnight stay.

Day 2

Sabah Hotel / Gomantong Cave / Bilit Kinabatangan River Cruise / Sabah Hotel

After breakfast, depart Sandakan for Gomantong Cave, one of Sabah’s most notable limestone cave systems. Join a guided walk through the cave to explore its dramatic rock formations and learn about the cave ecosystem, including the famous swiftlet nests that are harvested sustainably.

Continue onward to Bilit for a day excursion along the Kinabatangan River, Sabah’s longest river and an important wildlife corridor. Enjoy a river cruise through the surrounding rainforest, with opportunities to spot proboscis monkeys, hornbills, crocodiles, and other animals along the riverbanks. Lunch will be served in Bilit, followed by time to relax before the return journey.

After dinner in Bilit, travel back to Sandakan and return to Sabah Hotel for your overnight stay.

Day 3

Sabah Hotel / Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary / Sandakan Airport

After breakfast at the hotel, check out and depart for the Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary, located within a mangrove forest on the outskirts of Sandakan. Observe the proboscis monkeys during their feeding session and watch their distinctive behaviour as they move through the trees and platforms.

After the visit, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before transferring to Sandakan Airport for your onward journey.
