Sandakan / Tanini Kinabatangan / Kinabatangan River Cruise / Civet Night Walk
Begin your journey with a pickup from Sandakan or Sepilok and travel overland towards the Kinabatangan River. Along the way, pass local towns, villages and Sabah’s rural landscapes before arriving at Kampung Bilit.
Cross the Kinabatangan River by boat to Tanini Kinabatangan, where you will be welcomed and given a short orientation before checking in. Settle into the rainforest surroundings and get ready for your first wildlife experience.
16:00 Hrs: Head out on an afternoon Kinabatangan River cruise as the heat begins to ease and wildlife becomes more active along the riverbanks. Keep watch among the trees and forest canopy for proboscis monkeys, long-tailed macaques, hornbills and other wildlife while your guide scans the surrounding rainforest for movement.
19:00 Hrs: Return to Tanini Kinabatangan for dinner, Afterwards, explore the forest on a guided night walk with a special focus on civets and other nocturnal wildlife. After sunset, the rainforest takes on a different character as your guide helps you look for animals, sleeping birds and smaller creatures that are easier to encounter after dark.
