1 Day Kinabalu Crocker Range Trek (Maragang Hill - 2,232M) Print

Option A: Trek Only

04:30hrs : Start your first adventure in early morning with a leisure 2 hours overland drive to Mesilau, Kundasang. 

06:30hrs : Upon arrival at the Registration office, meet your local guide for the day and get an introductory briefing on safety, Do’s and Don’ts, and things to expect on the trail. 

06:45hrs : You will be transferred in a four-wheel drive to the starting point of the trail, where your adventure begins!  

The roughly cut, narrow trail to the peak will take around 2 hours of hiking through dense vegetation and natural slopes.  While the trek starts with a “warm up” 600 meters of uphill paved roads, it soon enters into thick forest with a 45-degree angle slope where you may need to grab on to a nearby tree branch or rope for an occasional helping hand.   

The trail gradually evens out with a short flat stretch of romantically mossy path before continuing upwards again.  Breathe in the fresh, crisp mountain air as you listen out for specific bird calls and keep your eyes peeled for pitcher plants and other unique features of this trek.  Be sure to pause for a Photo stop from the midway viewing point!  

Upon turning round the “corner” of the bushes to the summit clearing, stride proudly up the wooden stairs and take in the stunning view from 2,232 meters!   If the weather favours you, the clear blue skies will herald the jagged grey peaks of Mount Kinabalu towering high above.  On other days, you may just get teasing glimpses of the mountain in between the low-hanging clouds and perhaps a sneaky rainbow!   From another point of the Peak Platform, you may be able to spot the rolling green fields of Desa Cow Farm far below. Re-energise yourself with water and energy snacks as you soak in the peaceful ambience and pleasing views.  

09:30hrs : After snapping photos to your satisfaction, descend using the same trail.   

At the ending point, you will be transferred via four-wheel drive back to the Registration office where you can proudly receive your Certificate of Achievement!  

12:00hrs : Proceed for a warm meal at a local restaurant before transferring back to Kota Kinabalu.

Proceed for an adventurous journey that will let you experience the beautiful Kundasang mountain side in a unique way: riding a quad bike!  

Be amazed by the scenic drive up and down rolling hills, going through rivers and quaint villages amongst some of the best landscapes in Borneo. Along the way your guide will make some stops to tell you more about the life of its people and fauna. This will be a guided scenic adventure unlike anywhere else in Borneo. 

Note: The ATV activity duration is from 12:00 Hrs to 14:30 Hrs. Climbers who have selected this Option will need to finish the hike by 11:00 Hrs, in order to proceed for lunch before the ATV activity.

After roughing it out on the trails, it is time for a more leisure experience of Kinabalu Park!   

Transfer to the mountain resort for check in and freshen up.  Free and easy in the evening to rest or visit the nearby roadside Kundasang Market and Desa Cow Farm.  Dinner and overnight at the mountain resort.   

On the second day, depart on an hour’s journey to Poring Hot Spring.  Dip in the all-natural mineral-rich hot springs water, surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens. There is also a cold-water pool nearby for those who prefer a cold dip. Your day wraps up with an immersive exploration of Mount Kinabalu’s treetops and especially The Canopy Treetop Walk that invites you to witness the grandeur of a hundred million year old rainforest. A 20 minutes’ trek is needed to reach the Canopy Walkway.    

After a relaxing soak and lunch, head over to Kinabalu park, Malaysia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site and part of the Kinabalu UNESCO Global Geopark. Kinabalu Park itself boasts an estimate of 4,500 species of plants which include 1,500 species of orchids, 77 of which are endemic to Kinabalu. The park also supports 289 species of birds and 290 different types of butterflies. Enjoy the refreshing and cooling air as you proceed for a guided walk along the nature trails in the Botanical Garden, to learn more about the Kinabalu Park’s biological treasure trove.    

Bid Kinabalu Park goodbye as you return to your respective hotel in Kota Kinabalu city.
