Day 1

Kota Kinabalu / Kinabalu Park HQ / Timpohon Gate / Ascend Mount Kinabalu / Panalaban Base Camp

06:00–07:00hrs: Meet your driver at your Kota Kinabalu hotel and travel approximately two hours to Kinabalu Park. Please arrange an early or packed breakfast with your hotel before departure.

~08:00hrs: Complete your pre-check-in with Mountain Torq before proceeding with the required climbing registration. Your support team will arrange your climbing permit, ID tag and Sabah Parks mountain guide. You will also collect your packed lunch for the climb.

~08:30hrs: Transfer to Timpohon Gate at 1,866 metres for a short safety briefing before beginning your ascent.

The climb to Panalaban typically takes four to six hours, depending on your pace and trail conditions. As you gain elevation, watch the landscape change from oak and chestnut forest to moss-covered vegetation and the mountain’s cooler subalpine environment. Rest shelters are available along the trail for short breaks.

Arrive at Pendant Hut, an alpine-inspired accommodation located 3,289 metres above sea level. Settle into the shared unisex dormitory and rest in the lounge after your climb. Shared bathrooms, solar-heated shower facilities and filtered hot drinking water are available.

16:00hrs: Join the optional Via Ferrata safety briefing and equipment familiarisation at Pendant Hut. Mountain Torq’s trainer will introduce the harness, carabiners and basic safety procedures, allowing you to better understand the activity before deciding whether to participate.

Climbers interested in adding the Walk the Torq or Low’s Peak Circuit Via Ferrata activity must complete this briefing. Those who arrive after the briefing cannot participate in Via Ferrata the following morning.

18:00hrs: Walk to Laban Rata Restaurant for a buffet dinner before returning to Pendant Hut. Prepare your equipment for the early summit climb and rest for the night.

Arrive at Low’s Peak, the summit of Mount Kinabalu at 4,095.2 metres. Weather and climbing pace permitting, watch the sunrise reveal the surrounding peaks and mountain landscape before beginning your descent.

Return to Pendant Hut for a well-earned breakfast and rest. Pack your belongings and prepare for the descent.

Check out and retrace the Timpohon Trail with your mountain guide.

Arrive at Timpohon Gate and transfer to Kinabalu Park HQ. Successful climbers may collect their Mount Kinabalu Certificate of Achievement. Depending on your descent time, lunch will be served at the local restaurant or provided as a packed meal.
