Sample Itinerary

Day 1

Sandakan / Abai Kinabatangan

Begin your adventure with a convenient transfer to the jetty from Sandakan Airport or your hotel lobby. 

Embark on a scenic boat journey from Sandakan Yacht Club Jetty to Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort in Abai, Kinabatangan. Along the way, marvel at the historical Berhala Island and its sandstone cliffs, which were significant during World War II. 

Upon arrival at KWR, check into your long-house cabin and savour a cup of coffee accompanied by local banana fritters as you receive a briefing about the lodging and activities. Enjoy leisure time. 

Board a smaller boat for a sunset cruise along the Kinabatangan River, seeking out wildlife amidst the stunning river landscape. If weather permits, witness the mesmerising display of fireflies as evening descends before returning to the resort. 

Dinner will be served at the common hall, followed by an optional guided night stroll along the boardwalk to observe nocturnal wildlife.

Day 2

Abai Kinabatangan

Embark on an early morning wildlife cruise along Kinabatangan River, extending to the nearby ox-bow lake, Danau Pitas, while enjoying a packed breakfast amidst natural surroundings. 

Visit the local fishing village, Kampung Abai, to interact with the Orang Sungai (River People) and observe daily village life before returning to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. 

Explore the resort grounds, indulging in birdwatching and discovering interesting plants and insects. 

Set out on another river adventure, exploring small tributaries in search of more wildlife. 

After dinner, embark on a night cruise along small tributary rivers to spot nocturnal wildlife before retiring for the night at the lodge.

Day 3

Abai Kinabatangan / Sepilok Nature Lodge

After breakfast, check out and travel by boat to Sandakan jetty, followed by a transfer to Sepilok Nature Lodge or similar accommodation. 

Check in and enjoy the day at your leisure, exploring the surroundings or relaxing at the lodge.

Sandakan PSR Jetty / Lankayan Island Dive Resort

Check out and transfer to Sandakan PSR Jetty via a 30-minute drive.

Check in at your leisure and enjoy the rest of the day unwinding amidst the natural beauty of Lankayan Island.

  • If you are arriving at Sandakan Airport on the day of your tour, our friendly guide will greet you and pick you up from the airport with a placard bearing your good name.

  • The standard check-in and check-out times for most hotels & resorts are 1400 Hrs & 1200 Hrs. However, check-in & check-out times may vary depending on each accommodation. So kindly check with us to get accurate check-in & check-out times for your accommodation. 
  • Effective as of 1st September 2017, the Tourism and Culture Ministry of Malaysia will be implementing a Malaysian Tourism Tax (TTx). Foreign tourists will be required to pay a flat rate of MYR 10 per room per night regardless of accommodation star level. The TTx is to be paid upon check-in. Malaysians or permanent residents residing in Malaysia are exempted from TTx and is required to present a valid identification upon check-in for the exemption.

  • After commencement of service, no refund, in part or full, will be given for services included in the package which have not been utilised 
  • Infants, pregnant women and senior citizens (above 80 years old) are not allowed by boat to Lankayan Dive Resort. 
  • Amazing Borneo and Lankayan Dive Resort will not be held liable for any delay, additional expenses or inconvenience which may be caused directly or indirectly by events outside of the company's control, such as late arrival of domestic or international flights, civil disturbances, fire, floods, unusually severe weather, act of God, act of Government, or the failure of any machinery or equipment and property whilst staying at the resort, during participation of any activity. The resort withholds the right to change the planned itinerary, leave for the jetty early or change the schedule.  
  • Amazing Borneo and Lankayan Dive Resort will not be held responsible, or in any way liable, for property losses, personal losses, accidents, injuries, or deaths for any reason whatsoever, whether through any activities booked through us or caused to you by third parties. All guests will be required to read and sign the company Standard Liability Form and other related forms at the resort upon arrival and check-in.  
  • Please check you have the required travel documents before booking your trip. Ensure that your passport has at least 6 months of validity from your time of entry into Malaysia.
