Lahad Datu / Danum Valley Field Centre / Night Drive
Please note that the itinerary below is a suggested sample. Activities may be tailored to your interests and current conditions, in consultation with your nature guide upon arrival at DVFC.
Begin your adventure with an 08:00 Hrs pick-up from your hotel or Lahad Datu Airport, followed by a scenic 2.5-hour overland journey into the heart of Borneo’s ancient wilderness, the Danum Valley Conservation Area. Along the way, observe the gradual transformation of the landscape from regenerating forests to the untouched beauty of a 130-million-year-old tropical rainforest.
Upon arrival, proceed to the DVCA Reception and Information Building for registration. After a short briefing by the DVFC staff, check into your accommodation and enjoy a hearty lunch at the dining hall.
In the afternoon, consult with your nature guide to discuss and personalise your activity plans for the days ahead. You may choose to relax or take a short nap before heading out on a mid-afternoon walk around the field centre. This introductory walk offers a chance to encounter resident wildlife such as orangutans, red leaf monkeys, sambar deer, wild boars, and hornbills.
By 19:00 Hrs, return to the centre before sunset and enjoy your dinner.
After dinner, join a 4x4 night drive to search for nocturnal wildlife (subject to weather conditions).
