Day 1

Sandakan / Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre / Sukau Rainforest Lodge / Kinabatangan River Cruise

Begin your adventure with a pick-up from Sandakan Airport or your local hotel and head straight to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre to learn about the rehabilitation efforts and witness a feeding session. 

After lunch, embark on a 2.5-hour speedboat journey up the Kinabatangan River to reach Sukau Rainforest Lodge. 

Once checked in, enjoy a late afternoon river cruise to observe the diverse wildlife and bird species in the area. 

Conclude the day with dinner at the lodge's Melapi Restaurant, followed by an educational slide presentation by a naturalist guide.

Day 2

Morning River Cruise / Nature Walk / Gomantong Caves

Kick off your day with a morning river cruise to Kelenanap Oxbow Lake for bird and wildlife spotting. 

After breakfast, take a guided nature walk along the lodge’s boardwalks. 

Spend the afternoon at your leisure – explore the lodge, relax by the pool, or attend an Ape Talk at the Ape Gallery. 

Later in the afternoon, visit Gomantong Caves to explore the limestone cave system, with the option to climb to Simud Putih and witness a bat exodus at dusk. 

Return to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 3

Lahad Datu / Utan Rainforest Lodge / Nature Walk / Sunset River Cruise / Night Safari Drive

After breakfast, check out and drive to Utan Rainforest Lodge in the Sungai Kapur Virgin Jungle Reserve near Tabin Wildlife Reserve. 

Upon arrival, check in, enjoy lunch, and explore the lodge’s facilities, including a dip pool and bar. 

Take part in an introductory nature walk near the lodge, where you’ll begin to familiarise yourself with the surrounding flora and fauna. 

Later, enjoy a sunset river cruise with chances to spot proboscis monkeys, pygmy elephants, hornbills, and more. 

If weather permits, you may be accompanied by fireflies on your return to the lodge. 

End the day with dinner and a night safari drive to observe nocturnal wildlife.

Day 4

Birdwatching / Morning River Cruise / Night Walk

Wake up early to the sounds of nature and set out on a morning hike to Cuckoo Hide, where you might spot endemic birds, including the resident Bornean Ground Cuckoo. 

After breakfast, if conditions allow, embark on a river cruise through the Segama River’s mangrove forests to spot wildlife such as flying foxes, eagles, and the rare Irrawaddy Dolphins. 

Spend the rest of the day at leisure – relax at the lodge, visit the information gallery, or unwind in the dip pool. 

After dinner, take a night walk around the lodge to observe nocturnal animals like civets, leopard cats, mouse deer, and moonrats.
