Following the magnitude 6.0 earthquake that struck Mount Kinabalu nearly 10 months ago, the local authorities have identified several measures to enhance the safety of hikers, ranging from plans to install rockfall barriers to putting more safety and rescue personnel on standby to assist climbers in crises.

The gongs are Sabah’s most iconic indiophones that are found throughout Sabah, particularly among the Kadazandusun and Murut ethnics. It is considered the backbone of the traditional musical instruments found in Sabah. The Gong is made of either brass or bronze. It is usually thick with a broad rim and produces a distinct muffled sound of a deep tone. In the olden days, it was originally traded in from Brunei.

The Dusun Tindal community is classified as a sub-group of the Kadazandusun people of Sabah. They share the same culture and dialect as the Kadazandusun people, with minor differences in terms of traditional dance and costume.

It is said that you will never be quite the true Sabahan until you have climbed Mount Kinabalu, preferably more than once. Fairly enough, travelers from all over the world have flocked to Sabah for years and made month-long reservations to experience what it’s like standing on the summit of Mount Kinabalu. Therefore, when offered the opportunity to climb Mount Kinabalu (for the third time in my lifetime), I just couldn’t say no.

The Borneo International Marathon (BIM) has been one of Sabah Tourism’s annual premier events ever since its inception in 2008. Initially, BIM was organized by Championship Sport Events Sdn. Bhd., spearheaded by Mr. Andrew Voon as the Race Director as well as the person instrumental in organizing the Borneo International Marathon.The first BIM had three categories : 10km, 21km and 42km and was participated by a mere 529 runners.
