Day 1 - Arrival in Sandakan

Upon arrival at Sandakan Airport, you will be transferred to your accommodation for check-in. 

Spend the rest of the day at your leisure, preparing for the upcoming week’s eco-adventures.

Day 2 - Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre / Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre / Sukau Rainforest Lodge

Check out of your Sandakan accommodation and travel to Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Watch a video on orangutan rehabilitation, then walk through the rainforest to observe feeding and visit their nursery for young orangutans. 

Visit the Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Centre, a rescue and rehabilitation facility, to learn about the conservation efforts being carried out for the world's smallest bears. 

Travel overland for approximately 2 hours to the award-winning Sukau Rainforest Lodge, your retreat of eco-luxury and comfort set along the banks of the majestic Kinabatangan River, the second longest river in Malaysia. 

Enjoy an afternoon river cruise to spot wildlife and birds. Kinabatangan River is a hotbed of wildlife activity, with opportunities to spot pygmy elephants, proboscis monkeys, hornbills, and more. 

Enjoy a candlelight dinner by the river and a presentation by a naturalist guide before retiring to your lodge for the night.

Day 3 - Kinabatangan River / Hornbill Boardwalk / Orangutan Talk / River Cruise

Begin the day with a morning river cruise on the Kinabatangan River to Kelenanap Oxbow Lake to observe the diverse range of birds and wildlife that roam around there. 

After breakfast, take an educational tour along the lodge's Hornbill Boardwalk with a naturalist, learning about the diverse ecosystem of Kinabatangan River. 

After lunch, participate in an Orangutan Talk activity introducing you to the wonders of this unique species. 

Enjoy another river cruise in the afternoon for more opportunities for wildlife encounters.

Day 4 - Borneo Rainforest Lodge / Nature Trails / Treetop Canopy Walk / Night Safari Drive

After breakfast, transfer overland for 2 hours to the Danum Valley Conservation Area, a 130-million-year-old primary rainforest and Sabah's largest protected lowland rainforest. 

Check-in at the award-winning Borneo Rainforest Lodge, providing you with the pinnacles of eco-luxury and comfort amidst a pristine tropical rainforest. 

Have lunch at the lodge, followed by an introductory presentation in the Conference Room. 

In the afternoon, explore the nature trails around the lodge, and the 300m long, 26m high Canopy Walkway for a close-up view of the rainforest. 

After dinner, embark on a night safari drive in an open-top vehicle to search for nocturnal animals (weather permitting). Some wildlife you may be fortunate enough to encounter at night include moonrats, clouded leopards, tarsiers, and a vast range of frogs, vipers, and insects.

Day 5 - Jungle Trek / Kadazandusun Burial Site – Coffin Cliff / Jacuzzi Pool / Tubing in Danum River / Night Walk

Start with your day with a morning jungle trek to Coffin Cliff, a Kadazandusun burial site, then continue to View Point for a bird's eye view of the area. 

Descend to the nearby Natural Jacuzzi Pool for a refreshing dip before returning to the lodge for lunch. 

In the late afternoon, you may choose to either venture out on another jungle trek or enjoy a relaxing tubing session down Danum River. 

After dinner, join a night walk to spot nocturnal animals before retiring to your lodge for the night.

Day 6 - Lahad Datu Airport / Kota Kinabalu / Gaya Island Resort

After lunch, check out and transfer to Lahad Datu Airport for your flight to Kota Kinabalu. 

Upon arrival, transfer to the Kota Kinabalu Jetty for a boat ride to Gaya Island Resort. 

Check-in, enjoy the resort amenities, and have dinner at one of the resort's restaurants.

Day 7 - Gaya Island Resort / Free & Easy

Enjoy a luxurious breakfast and enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.

    • Cameras with zoom lenses from 100 to 400mm, video cameras, or other video recording equipment for personal use are subject to a fee of RM10/unit. 
    • Cameras with fixed lenses 400mm and above or any filmmaking equipment incur a charge of RM1,000/unit.

  • Notes on Borneo Rainforest Lodge (BRL): 
    • Cell phone coverage is available but limited, depending on weather conditions and satellite function. Be prepared to have no coverage for some of your stay. 
    • A permit is required for any photos and videos taken for commercial use. This must be arranged prior to your trip. 
    • Borneo Rainforest Lodge is a no-fly zone.  The use of drones is strictly prohibited over or within Borneo Rainforest Lodge and the surrounding rainforests. 
  • Please ensure you are holding air ticket to Sandakan. 
  • Standard check-in and check-out times for most hotels & resorts are 1400 hrs & 1200 hrs. However, check-in & check-out times may vary depending on each accommodation. So kindly check with us to get accurate check-in & check-out times of your accommodation.  
  • Effective as of 1st September 2017, the Tourism and Culture Ministry of Malaysia will be implementing a Malaysian Tourism Tax (TTx).
