Sample itinerary

Day 1 - LAHAD DATU / DANUM VALLEY FIELD CENTRE / NIGHT DRIVE

  • Pick up from Lahad Datu Airport.
  • You’ll take a 2-hour journey to the Danum Valley Field Centre.
  • Upon arrival, you’ll check in to your room and proceed to the Resthouse Dining Hall for lunch.
  • After lunch, take a 500-metre self-guided nature trail walk and get acquainted with the rainforest and marvel at the pristine beauty of the rainforest.
  • Return to the Danum Valley Field Centre for a little R&R after your walk.
  • Dinner is served in the Resthouse Dining Hall.
  • Head out on a Night Drive in an open-top vehicle in search of nocturnal animals. (If weather permits)
  • Get a good night’s rest with an overnight stay at the Danum Valley Field Centre.

Day 2 - TEMBALING WATERFALL / BIRD WATCHING / NIGHT WALK

  • Satisfy hungry tummies in the morning with breakfast.
  • After breakfast, grab your packed lunch and begin your 2-hour trek over to Tembaling Waterfall and relish in one of the world’s oldest rainforests surrounded by endless flora and fauna.
  • Upon arrival on the waterfall, you may take a well-deserved and refreshing swim in cold, unpolluted rainforest stream. (If weather permits)
  • Bird watchers will rejoice as there are ample opportunities for bird watching (If weather permits), so keep binoculars at the ready!
  • Return to the Danum Valley Field Centre and opt to either continue bird watching or rest up before dinner.
  • Dinner is served!
  • After dinner, observe nocturnal wildlife up-close and personal on a Night Walk. (If weather permits)
  • Lights off and spend the night at the Danum Valley Field Centre.

Day 3 - BUKIT ATUR SUNRISE / LAHAD DATU / SEMPORNA / MABUL ISLAND - SIPADAN-MABUL RESORT (SMART)

  • Stay your day right with a morning hike up Bukit Atur and a chance to witness a magnificent Bornean sunrise!
  • Grab some breakfast and pack up after your hike.
  • After checking out, you’ll be transferred to Lahad Datu where lunch will be served.
  • Your journey continues to Semporna where you’ll take a boat ride over to Mabul Island.
  • Check in to your chalet at the Sipadan-Mabul Resort.
  • Have some free and easy time to settle into your gorgeous surroundings.

Day 4 - MABUL ISLAND - SIPADAN-MABUL RESORT (SMART)

A stay at a resort is the perfect way to live out your wanderlust dreams. Head for a dive trip and discover a myriad of colourful corals and the marine life that make Sabah’s waters so vibrant! Choose from Sibuan, Mataking, Bohey Dulang, Mantabuan or Kapalai Island(s). If you prefer something more relaxing, opt to snorkel instead. The underwater life is just as gorgeous! Day 5 - MABUL ISLAND - SIPADAN-MABUL RESORT (SMART)

  • After an epic 6 days, it’s time to take a land transfer back to Tawau.

  • Please ensure you are holding air ticket to Lahad Datu.
  • Recommended flights from Kota Kinabalu to Lahad Datu: Malaysia Airlines MH3010 (ETD 0610hrs / ETA 0705hrs)
  • Recommended flights from Tawau to Kota Kinabalu: Air Asia AK5597 (ETD 1650hrs / ETA 1920hrs)
  • Cell phone coverage is available. However, it can sometimes be disrupted due to rain downpour and satellite malfunction.
  • DVFC electricity is powered by Generators. The generators will cease at 00:00 – 07:00 hours. You may need to prepare a torchlight.
  • Effective as of 1st September 2017, the Tourism and Culture Ministry of Malaysia will be implementing a Malaysian Tourism Tax (TTX). Foreign tourists will be required to pay a flat rate of MYR 10 per room per night regardless of accommodation star level. The TTx is to be paid upon check-in. Malaysians or permanent residents residing in Malaysia are exempted from TTx and is required to present a valid identification upon check-in for the exemption.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE

  • This package is based on join-in basis of shared guide and transport vehicle. Private Guide or Tour is available upon request at a reasonable fee. Please inform us when making the bookings.

  • No diving on arrival and departure day even no flying.
  • CONDITION FOR DIVING
    • LIABILITY/RELEASE FORM (WAIVER)
      • All guests will be required to sign a Liability/Release Form (Waiver) before or upon arrival and abide by all diving and safety rules of the resort.
    • WEATHER CONDITIONS
      • The resort operates diving all year round but the weather conditions are unpredictable these days for scuba diving even for the best season.
    • DIVER TRAINING
      • All divers will be required to show proof of diver training from an internationally recognized Diver Training Agency upon arrival or they will not be allowed to dive without taking a dive course. 
      • SMART also reserves the right to require a Scuba Skills Refresher Course for any diver who cannot provide proof of diving in the last 12 months and/or exhibits uncertainty in their skills. Logbooks are highly recommended.

USEFUL TRAVEL TIPS

  • For Day 1 – 3 tour in Danum Valley, make sure you always have dry bags and think about ways of keeping your equipment dry as the rainforest can be quite unpredictable and wet items will be extremely hard to dry or air out.
  • For Day 3 – 6 island tour, your belongings may get wet. You can bring along waterproof bags such as dry bags or plastic bags to keep your belongings nice and dry! Before going out for some fun in the sun, you may bring along some SPF50 sunscreen and an umbrella to protect your skin.
