Sample itinerary

Day 1 - LAHAD DATU / BORNEO RAINFOREST LODGE / NATURE TRAILS CANOPY WALK / NIGHT DRIVE

  • Pick up from Lahad Datu Airport.
  • Depart for a 2 and a half-hour overland journey to Danum Valley’s Borneo Rainforest Lodge.
  • Check in upon arrival followed by lunch.
  • After lunch, you will proceed for an Afternoon Trek through forest "Nature Trails" and a treetop "Canopy Walk" for an up-close experience of the rainforest.
  • Dig into a much-needed dinner!
  • After dinner, you will be whisked away in an open-top vehicle for a Night Drive in search of Bornean-endemic nocturnal wanderers. (If weather permits)
  • End your day with an overnight stay at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 2 - MORNING JUNGLE TREK TO KADAZANDUSUN BURIAL SITE - COFFIN CLIFF / JACUZZI POOL DIP / TUBING IN DANUM RIVER / NIGHT WALK

  • Rise and shine, it’s breakfast time!
  • After breakfast, venture off to a Morning Jungle Trek to a Kadazandusun burial site “Coffin Cliff” before proceeding to “View Point” for an aerial view of your surroundings. Descend over to the “Jacuzzi Pool” for a refreshing morning dip.
  • Head back for lunch at the lodge.
  • After re-energising, what better way to spend the rest of the afternoon than “Tubing” down the Danum River!
  • Dry off and grab yourself some dinner.
  • Put on your trekking shoes, you’ll be searching for nocturnal animals on foot today with a Night Walk activity. (If weather permits)
  • Get a good night’s rest with an overnight stay at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.

Day 3 - BORNEO RAINFOREST LODGE / LAHAD DATU / SEMPORNA / MABUL ISLAND - MABUL WATER BUNGALOW (SMART)

  • After a well-deserved rest, grab yourself a hearty breakfast.
  • Pack up and prepare to check out of Borneo Rainforest Lodge and onwards to Lahad Datu!
  • Upon arrival in Lahad Datu, hungry tummies will be fed with lunch.
  • You will then continue your journey to Semporna.
  • Take a boat ride to Mabul Island and check into your Mabul Island Water Bungalow.
  • Settle into your abode and explore your surroundings until night falls.
  • When on a tropical island, what better way to enjoy some fun in the sun than with a few water sports of your choice!
  • You may also pre-book dive packages to Sibuan, Mataking, Bohey Dulang, Mantabuan or Kapalai with us!
  • After a long day of transfer and activities, reward yourself with some dinner.
  • Spend the night in your Mabul Water Bungalow.

Day 4 - MABUL ISLAND - MABUL WATER BUNGALOW (SMART)

Live out your tropical island getaway by spending your day with a full day out in the crystal clear waters of Borneo! Have the opportunity to encounter vibrant seabed of corals and the marine critters that co-exist harmoniously with it. (*Activities are at your own expenses)

Day 5 - MABUL ISLAND - MABUL WATER BUNGALOW (SMART)

  • Bid Mabul Island goodbye as you take a boat ride back to Semporna.
  • Journey back to Tawau with fond memories of your epic 6-day adventure in Borneo.

  • Recommended flights from Kota Kinabalu to Lahad Datu: Malaysia Airlines MH3010 (ETD 0610hrs / ETA 0705hrs)
  • Recommended flights from Tawau to Kota Kinabalu: Air Asia AK5597 (ETD 1650hrs / ETA 1920hrs)
  • Cell phone coverage is available. However, it can sometimes be disrupted due to rain downpour and satellite malfunction.
  • Effective as of 1st September 2017, the Tourism and Culture Ministry of Malaysia will be implementing a Malaysian Tourism Tax (TTX). Foreign tourists will be required to pay a flat rate of MYR 10 per room per night regardless of accommodation star level. The TTx is to be paid upon check-in. Malaysians or permanent residents residing in Malaysia are exempted from TTx and is required to present a valid identification upon check-in for the exemption.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE

  • This package is based on join-in basis of shared guide and transport vehicle. Private Guide or Tour is available upon request at a reasonable fee. Please inform us when making the bookings.
  • Activities are subject to weather conditions, and may be re-organised to best meet operational situations.
  • No diving on arrival and departure day even no flying.
  • CONDITION FOR DIVING
    • LIABILITY/RELEASE FORM (WAIVER)
      • All guests will be required to sign a Liability/Release Form (Waiver) before or upon arrival and abide by all diving and safety rules of the resort.
    • WEATHER CONDITIONS
      • The resort operates diving all year round but the weather conditions are unpredictable these days for scuba diving even for the best season.
    • DIVER TRAINING
      • All divers will be required to show proof of diver training from an internationally recognized Diver Training Agency upon arrival or they will not be allowed to dive without taking a dive course. 
      • SMART also reserves the right to require a Scuba Skills Refresher Course for any diver who cannot provide proof of diving in the last 12 months and/or exhibits uncertainty in their skills. Logbooks are highly recommended.

USEFUL TRAVEL TIPS

  • For Day 1 – 3 tour in Danum Valley, make sure you always have dry bags and think about ways of keeping your equipment dry as the rainforest can be quite unpredictable and wet items will be extremely hard to dry or air out.
  • For Day 3 – 6 island tour, your belongings may get wet. You can bring along waterproof bags such as dry bags or plastic bags to keep your belongings nice and dry! Before going out for some fun in the sun, you may bring along some SPF50 sunscreen and an umbrella to protect your skin.
