Sample itinerary

Day 1 - Kota Kinabalu / North Borneo Cruises - Sunset Dinner Cruise

Welcome to Kota Kinabalu! Begin your trip with a convenient pick-up from the airport and transfer to your 4-star hotel for check-in. 

Once settled, you are free to explore the city at your leisure. 

16:45 Hrs: Transfer to the Sutera Marina Jetty to embark on a captivating Sunset Dinner Cruise with North Borneo Cruises. 

17:30 Hrs: Float along the enchanting city coastline, basking in the cool breeze and panoramic views of the South China Sea as the golden sun glows around you. 

Below deck is where you indulge, with an exciting international buffet spread and live acoustic music to accompany your meal. 

Upon your return to shore, we will be there for transfer back to your hotel.

Day 2 - Tamparuli Town / Nabalu Market / Desa Cow Farm / Mountain Resort

Get ready for an adventure-filled day as we pick you up from your hotel lobby. 

First stop: Tamparuli. Stroll across Jambatan Tamparuli, a 200-metre-long suspension bridge that is shrouded in folklore. It is so iconic in Sabah that it has inspired both a song and a musical! 

Your next destination is Nabalu Town. Check out the local market with its wide displays of fresh produce, confectionaries, and locally made handicrafts and souvenirs. Have lunch at a local restaurant before moving on to your next destination. 

Next is Desa Cow Farm. Perched near the foot of Mount Kinabalu, the farm reaches across 199 hectares of serene greenscape. Here, you can interact with the curious cattle, feed calves, and indulge in fresh yoghurt and gelato. 

As you arrive in Kundasang, cool misty air welcomes you. Check in at a mountain resort, to where you will be retreating for the night. You are free to explore the resort at your leisure. 

Enjoy a sumptuous dinner and a peaceful night as the mountains cradle you to sleep.

Day 3 - Canopy Treetop Walk / Poring Hot Spring / Kinabalu UNESCO Global Geopark / Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort

Rise to a beautiful misty morning with the majestic Mount Kinabalu peeping out from behind the fog. 

Your day begins with a jaunt across the Canopy Treetop Walk at Poring Hot Springs. Hanging 60 metres above the forest floor, the canopy walk offers stunning views of the surrounding landscapes. 

Afterwards, soak in a hot sulphur spring bath amidst verdant natural surroundings. Here, the healing touch of nature soothes and heals with its skin-curative properties and ability to reduce stress. 

Delve into the wonders of Kinabalu UNESCO Global Geopark, the home of Mount Kinabalu and a stunning Botanical Garden with an estimated 5,000 to 6,000 vascular plant species. Explore the park and learn about Sabah’s rich biodiversity. 

Have lunch at a nearby restaurant before transferring to Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort. 

After checking in at your hotel, the day is yours to enjoy at your leisure.

Day 4 - Free and Easy / Shangri-La Rasa Ria Resort

Immerse yourself in luxury at Shangri-La Rasa Ria. Start with a delicious breakfast, then unwind on the 3km private beach or explore the resort's pools, gym, golf course, and tennis courts. In the evening, savour delectable cuisine at one of their many restaurants, such as Coffee Terrace, Golfers’ Terrace, Kozan Teppan-yaki, Tepi Laut, Oceano Modern Grill, and The Eighth, offering everything from local specialities to modern grills.

For the adventurous, hike through rainforests, kayak, or try bodyboarding. Water sports like jet skiing and windsurfing are also available (fee applies). Explore the resort's 64-acre Rasa Ria Reserve, teeming with exotic flora and fauna.

Join optional activities like cycling tours, river cruises, or firefly watching. Children will be delighted by the pool, kid-friendly activities, and Adventure Point's playground and climbing tower.

Later in the day, relax at the spa with a luxurious treatment, soak up the sun on the beach, or simply unwind in your comfortable abode.

Day 5 - Kota Kinabalu International Airport / Departure or Extend Tour

After breakfast, it is time to check out and transfer back to Kota Kinabalu.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

  • Upon arrival at Kota Kinabalu Airport on the day of your tour, our friendly guide will greet and pick you up from the airport with a placard showing our Amazing Borneo Logo.
  • If you are arriving in Kota Kinabalu at night on Day 1, the North Borneo Cruises tour can be rescheduled to Day 3 upon returning to Kota Kinabalu after your Kinabalu Park tour.
  • Standard check-in and check-out times for most hotels & resorts are 1400Hrs & 1200Hrs. However, check-in & check-out times may vary depending on each accommodation. So kindly check with us to get accurate check-in & check-out times for your accommodation.
  • Effective as of 1st September 2017, the Tourism and Culture Ministry of Malaysia will be implementing a Malaysian Tourism Tax (TTX). Foreign tourists will be required to pay a flat rate of MYR 10 per room per night regardless of accommodation star level. The TTx is to be paid upon check-in. Malaysians or permanent residents residing in Malaysia are exempted from TTx and is required to present a valid identification upon check-in for the exemption.

Things You Should Know About North Borneo Cruises: 

  • Guests are to arrive at Sutera Marina Jetty at least 15 minutes prior to cruise departure.  
  • All seats will be assigned automatically. If you wish to choose a table type, you may reserve a table for a small surcharge. Please check with our Tour Consultant for availability. 
  • No outside food and beverages (including Tarap and Durian) are allowed onboard the North Borneo Cruises. A corkage fee will apply for outside beverages. 
  • Consumption of drugs or contraband or conducting of any illegal activity onboard North Borneo Cruises is strictly prohibited. North Borneo Cruises shall hold no responsibility or liability for any guests who participate in such activities. 
  • All guests are required to behave in a respectful manner to the Cruise Captain and all members of the Crew and Cruise Attendants and other guests.  Should any passenger display unruly or violent behaviour toward anyone onboard North Borneo Cruises, the Operator reserves the right to involve the authorities once the cruise has reached the mainland. 
  • In any situation regarding the safety of the vessel and its passengers, the Cruise Captain holds full authority to make the final decision. 
  • The Operator/Cruise Captain reserves the right to refuse any passenger to board if they are displaying unruly behaviour under the influence of alcohol or drugs without any refund. 
  • Any damages or loss to equipment onboard or the cruise due to negligence or unruly behaviour must be replaced or repaired by the passenger responsible.  
  • North Borneo Cruises will not be liable for any injury received by passengers that are caused due to negligence or unruly or violent behaviour onboard. 
  • Children (11 years and below) are to be always supervised by an adult. North Borneo Cruises crew and cruise attendants is not responsible or liable for them.  
  • Passengers with disabilities must be accompanied by a carer at all times. North Borneo Cruises crew and cruise attendants will take reasonable care in bringing them on board but are not responsible or liable for their movement while onboard. 
  • We will require your passport/MYKAD number for registration. 

About Kinabalu Park & Poring Hot Spring:

  • Kinabalu Park is at a high altitude, approximately 1500 meters above sea level - it can get cold.
  • The Canopy Walkway is approximately 40 meters above the ground and not suitable for the faint-hearted.
  • Poring Hot Spring Outdoor Bathtubs are for complimentary use and are free of charge. Guests can rent indoor bathtubs at their own expense.
  • There are only ten (10) standard and five (05) deluxe indoor bathubs at Poring Hot Spring. Rates are at MYR 15/- per hour per standard indoor bathtub and MYR 20/- per hour per deluxe indoor bathtub, payable on the spot but are subject to availability.
  • The Slide Pool located in Poring Hot Springs is closed every Monday for maintenance. Guests can purchase the entrance fee (at their own expense) to Slide Pool for MYR 3/- per person. Free for 6-year-olds and below.
  • Kindly take note that camera fees apply before entering Canopy Walk. Cameras will be charged MYR 5 each, and video cameras / camcorders will be charged MYR 30 each.
  • The Butterfly Farm at the Poring Hot Springs is closed every Monday.
  • Depending on the season, you may get the rare chance to spot the Rafflesia flowers in bloom, which only lasts for 3 to 5 days. They are located in the private gardens beside Poring Hot Springs. Entrance fees are at MYR 30 per person, though this will be at your own expense.

USEFUL TRAVEL TIPS

  • Stay warm! You may bring a sweater along with you as it can get a wee bit chilly up in Kinabalu Park.
  • Flight Timing Guide:
    • Arrival:
      It is recommended to book flights which arrive in Kota Kinabalu before 14:00hrs on the first day in order to make it for the North Borneo Cruises. If your flight arrives after 14:00hrs, we will reschedule your cruise session to Day 3. 
    • Departure:
      You can book any flight time for departure from Kota Kinabalu on your last day.
