Sample itinerary

Day 1 - KOTA KINABALU / KENINGAU / PUNGITON CAVES / PUNGITON CAMP

  • Meet and pick up at your hotel lobby in Kota Kinabalu and onwards to Keningau.
  • After a journey through scenic landscapes, hop on to a 4x4 for your transfer to Labang Village and a river transfer to Pungiton Camp.
  • A few transfers later, you will be welcomed with light refreshments.
  • Settle in to your accommodation at Pungiton Camp before embarking to the unexplored Pungiton Caves.
  • Take an adventurous walk through the cave where an underground stream sits and be in awe at the stalactite and stalagmite formations.
  • After an active afternoon, relax with a refreshing swim by the river.
  • Dine under the stars before your overnight stay at Pungiton Camp to an ensemble of sounds provided by your natural surroundings.

Day 2 - BATU PUNGGOL CLIMBING / VANGKAAKON WATERFALL

  • Rise and shine, breakfast is served!
  • Check out of the camp and you’ll be transferred to Tataluan for your epic excursion to Batu Punggol!
  • Brace yourselves as you are taken on a vigorous climb to the top for magnificent views of the jungle canopy below.
  • After some time at Batu Punggol, enjoy a scrumptious picnic by the riverbank before making your way to the Vangkaakon Waterfall.
  • Spend your afternoon exploring and jungle trekking to a multi-levelled waterfall.
  • Spend the afternoon relaxing and taking a swim in the waterfalls.
  • Dinner is served followed by an overnight stay at in a hut overlooking the waterfall.

Day 3 - SALUNG DOWNSTREAM BOAT RIDE / KALIMANTAN BORDER / MUNORAULAI GUESTHOUSE

  • Prepare for another day of exploring with a hearty breakfast.
  • Hop on your transfer to the Salung Jetty for an exhilarating Rapid shooting Ride Downstream onwards to the borders of Kalimantan in a wooden boat.
  • Embrace your surroundings by observing breathtaking views and the different Murut villages along the river.
  • After the exhilarating boat ride, you will be transferred to MunorAulai Guesthouse, a modern village longhouse at Romol Village.
  • Enjoy a nice stroll during the farm tour activity, where you will learn more about the locals and their integrated farming concept. 
  • After settling in and taking in your surroundings overlooking a valley, it’s time for dinner!
  • You’ll feast on delicious local dishes, try local rice wine, and enjoy a traditional Murut dance before spending the night in the longhouse.

Day 4 - MUNORAULAI GUESTHOUSE / KENINGAU / KOTA KINABALU

  • Rise bright and early for some breakfast before packing up.
  • Bid your Murut adventure in Orou Sapulot goodbye as your depart back to Keningau via a 4x4.
  • Upon arrival at Keningau, you will be transferred back to your respective hotels or onwards to your next destination!

  • Accommodation is clean and well maintained - however, very basic. Bringing along a sleeping bag is not necessary, but you may do so for extra comfort.
  • Overnight necessities such as Towels, Bedding & Blankets will be provided during your stay. We encourage travellers to travel light.
  • Food is of good quality.  Do take note that it is prepared locally by the local people, so there are limitations if you have special dietary requirements.
  • Climbing Batu Punggul is quite challenging and is not recommended if you are unfit or have a fear of heights. Climbing is at the individual’s own risk and Amazing Borneo accepts no responsibility for those who choose to make the climb. Anyone who decides not to climb may still enjoy swimming in the beautiful river below.
  • Effective as of 1st September 2017, the Tourism and Culture Ministry of Malaysia will be implementing a Malaysian Tourism Tax (TTX). Foreign tourists will be required to pay a flat rate of MYR 10 per room per night regardless of accommodation star level. The TTx is to be paid upon check-in. Malaysians or permanent residents residing in Malaysia are exempted from TTx and is required to present a valid identification upon check-in for the exemption.
