Sample itinerary

Day 1 - Lahad Datu / INFAPRO / Afternoon Safari Drive / Danum Valley Field Centre / Nature & Wildlife Observation / INFAPRO / Night Safari Drive

(Note: The itinerary provided is a sample and is subject to changes based on weather, wildlife, and guest fitness. Your guide will make adjustments to ensure optimal experiences and safety throughout the tour.) 

Arrive in Lahad Datu and meet your guide for a 2.5-hour overland journey to the INFAPRO Conservation Site. 

Receive a warm welcome, check in to your spacious accommodation, and enjoy a hearty lunch while you consult with your guide on your activities for the next few days. Your itinerary can be tailored to suit your preferences. 

After a short rest, embark on a 4x4 safari drive into Danum Valley Field Centre (DVFC). The route itself offers prime opportunities to spot wildlife such as macaques, hornbills, and possibly pygmy elephants. 

Spend the afternoon exploring DVFC trails, guided by an expert naturalist familiar with the diverse flora and fauna of the rainforest. 

Return to INFAPRO before sundown. 

After dinner, join a night safari drive through surrounding forest roads for a chance to spot nocturnal species like civets, leopard cats, and flying squirrels (weather permitting).

Day 2 - Morning Safari Drive / Danum Valley Field Centre / Nature & Wildlife Observation / Afternoon Safari Drive / Night Walk / Night Safari Drive

Rise early for a morning safari drive into DVFC, golden hour for wildlife sightings. Watch out for orangutans, red leaf monkeys, and crested firebacks. 

Have breakfast picnic-style at the DVFC Dining Hall before continuing with guided morning walks along canopy and river trails. 

Return to INFAPRO for lunch and rest. 

In the afternoon, enjoy a second safari drive into DVFC, with your guide highlighting animal calls, track marks, and interesting plant species. 

As the day cools, venture on a guided night walk through the forest to safely observe tree frogs, vipers, and nocturnal birds. 

Return to INFAPRO for a leisurely night drive and dinner before retreating to your room for the night.

Day 3 - Morning Safari Drive / Danum Valley Field Centre / Nature & Wildlife Observation / Afternoon Safari Drive / Night Walk / Night Safari Drive

Begin with another early morning drive to DVFC for high-activity wildlife spotting. 

After breakfast, guests may opt for either short trails or a longer guided hike, depending on fitness levels. Potential sightings include hornbills in flight, wild boar, and endemic pitcher plants. 

Return to INFAPRO for lunch and a short break. 

Head out again for the final afternoon safari and wrap up your exploration with sunset views over the lush canopy. 

As the sun sets, venture out on another night walk for your last few opportunities to spot nocturnal wildlife. 

Return to INFAPRO for your final night safari drive, capturing any last nocturnal sightings and soaking in the forest ambience one last time before dinner.

Day 4 - Bukit Atur Sunrise / INFAPRO / Lahad Datu

Wake up by 04:30 Hrs for a pre-dawn 4x4 drive to the Bukit Atur Viewpoint, one of Danum Valley’s best locations for watching the sunrise over the forest canopy. 

Watch the first light bathe the misty valley while listening to the calls of gibbons and hornbills. 

Return to INFAPRO for a relaxed breakfast and some free time before check out. 

Depart by mid-morning to Lahad Datu to catch your onward flight – your tour ends here.

  • This package is exclusively for budget travellers who love nature. Please expect all facilities in INFAPRO to be very basic in comparison to Borneo Rainforest Lodge. 
  • INFAPRO is part of a live restoration initiative, helping to restore logged areas in the Danum Valley Conservation Area. By staying here, guests support environmental regeneration efforts and contribute to long-term ecological recovery. 
  • The accommodation at INFAPRO offers larger and more comfortable rooms compared to Danum Valley Field Centre (DVFC). Amenities are basic and practical, suitable for eco-travellers who value space, privacy, and uninterrupted access to power. 
  • The itinerary provided is a sample and may vary depending on weather conditions, wildlife activity, and guest fitness levels. Night drives and hikes are weather-permitting and subject to guide discretion. 
  • Transfer between Lahad Datu and INFAPRO is approximately 2 hours by 4x4 vehicle.
