Situated along the fringes of the river, spend your nights at Pungiton Camp equipped with the bare necessities of clean and comfortable facilities. Embrace the Murut culture as you are treated to an evening of traditional dance performances and introduced to the art of drinking locally produced rice wine.

Explore the Pungiton Caves, take a refreshing swim at Vangkaakon Waterfall, and challenge yourself to a climb up an 800 feet limestone pinnacle, Batu Punggol. Stunning to look at from afar and from the top, showcasing the gorgeous surroundings of Sapulot.

Sample itinerary

Day 1 - KOTA KINABALU / KENINGAU / PUNGITON CAVES / PUNGITON CAMP

  • Meet and pick up at your hotel lobby in Kota Kinabalu.
  • Journey through scenic landscapes to Keningau where, upon arrival, you will continue on to Labang Village on a 4x4 for a river transfer to Pungiton Camp.
  • After an arduous journey, refreshments will be served!
  • Settle in to your humble abode and embark to the unexplored Pungiton Caves.
  • Take an adventurous walk through the cave where an underground stream sits and be in awe at the stalactite and stalagmite formations.
  • After an active afternoon, it’s time to kick back and relax with a refreshing swim by the river.
  • Enjoy your dinner under the stars followed by an overnight stay at Pungiton Camp to an ensemble of sounds provided by your natural surroundings.

Day 2 - BATU PUNGGOL CLIMBING / MUNORAULAI GUESTHOUSE

  • Rise and shine! It’s time for breakfast.
  • Check out of the camp and you’ll be transferred to Tataluan for your epic excursion to Batu Punggol!
  • Brace yourselves as you are led on a vigorous climb to the top for magnificent views of the jungle canopy below.
  • After some time at Batu Punggol summit, you will enjoy a scrumptious picnic by the riverbank before making your way to MunorAulai Guesthouse at Romol Village.  The modern longhouse sits above a valley overlooking vast forests.
  • Your first activity will be the farm tour, where you will see and learn the integrated farming processes from the locals.
  • Immerse in the colourful Murut culture by feasting on traditional dishes and trying out local rice wine, and be entertained by a local dance performance.
  • After an evening of wining and dining with the locals, it’s time to hit the hay with an overnight stay at the longhouse.

Day 3 - VANGKAAKON WATERFALL / ROMOL VILLAGE / KOTA KINABALU

  • Awake bright and early to grab a hearty breakfast.
  • After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to a Vangkaakon Waterfall.
  • After jungle trekking to the waterfalls, what better way to enjoy it than to jump right in for a swim!
  • Light refreshments will be served to re-energise.
  • After time well spent at the multi-levelled waterfalls, you’ll be transferred back to Romol Village for lunch.
  • Bid farewell to the new local friends you’ve made during your Orou Sapulot trip before returning to Keningau and your respective hotel at Kota Kinabalu.

  • Accommodation is clean and well maintained - however, very basic. Bringing along a sleeping bag is not necessary, but you may do so for extra comfort.
  • Overnight necessities such as Towels, Bedding & Blankets will be provided during your stay. We encourage travellers to travel light.
  • Food is of good quality.  Do take note that it is prepared locally by the local people, so there are limitations if you have special dietary requirements.
  • Climbing Batu Punggul is quite challenging and is not recommended if you are unfit or have a fear of heights. Climbing is at the individual’s own risk and Amazing Borneo accepts no responsibility for those who choose to make the climb. Anyone who decides not to climb may still enjoy swimming in the beautiful river below.
  • Effective as of 1st September 2017, the Tourism and Culture Ministry of Malaysia will be implementing a Malaysian Tourism Tax (TTX). Foreign tourists will be required to pay a flat rate of MYR 10 per room per night regardless of accommodation star level. The TTx is to be paid upon check-in. Malaysians or permanent residents residing in Malaysia are exempted from TTx and is required to present a valid identification upon check-in for the exemption.
