Day 1 - Lahad Datu / Silam Coast Conservation Area / Blue Rings Reef / Pulau Tabun Birdwatching / Pulau Baik Japanese Shipwreck / Tumunong Hallu Beach / Borneo Rainforest Lodge

08:30 Hrs: Begin your adventure with a warm meet-and-greet at Lahad Datu Airport or your hotel. After a quick registration and briefing at the tour office, your guide will prepare you for the exciting days ahead. 

09:00 Hrs: Enjoy a hearty breakfast at a local restaurant, where the buzz of morning life in Lahad Datu sets the tone for your journey. 

10:20 Hrs: Transfer 40 minutes to the Silam Coast Conservation Area (SCCA), a protected marine sanctuary under Sabah Parks. Climb the 30-metre Menara Kayangan, or “Tower of Heaven,” for sweeping views of the coastline and emerald waters below. 

11:00 Hrs: Arrive at Tumunong Hallu Jetty and board a boat to the crystal-clear waters of Blue Rings Reef. Snorkel among colourful coral gardens, schools of reef fish, and perhaps turtles or rays gliding gracefully by. 

12:00 Hrs: Continue by boat to Pulau Tabun, an untouched island and nesting ground of the rare Philippine Megapode (locally known as the Tambun bird). 

12:30 Hrs: Head to Pulau Baik, home to the Japanese shipwreck Maiden Oasis. This fascinating site doubles as both a relic of history and a thriving marine ecosystem for divers and snorkellers. 

13:00 Hrs: Relax at Payang Beach Restaurant with a fresh seafood lunch featuring the bold and vibrant flavours of Sabah cuisine, paired with the sea breeze and ocean views. 

14:30 Hrs: Unwind at Tumunong Hallu Beach, a secluded paradise where golden sands meet turquoise waters. Enjoy hi-tea and convenient shower facilities before your journey inland. 

16:00 Hrs: Transfer to Borneo Rainforest Lodge in the heart of Danum Valley, a 2.5-hour scenic drive through lush jungle landscapes. 

19:00 Hrs: Dinner at the lodge, where you’ll enjoy an elegant meal with rainforest views. 

20:30 Hrs: Embark on a guided night drive in an open-top vehicle to spot nocturnal wildlife such as civets, flying squirrels, and perhaps a leopard cat. (Weather permitting.)

Day 2 - View Point / Coffin Cliff / Natural Jacuzzi / Water Rafting / Night Walk

07:00 Hrs: Enjoy breakfast at the lodge with sweeping views of the rainforest, often accompanied by the calls of gibbons or sightings of hornbills gliding overhead. 

09:00 Hrs: Set out with your naturalist guide on a morning jungle trek, first to the Kadazandusun Burial Site (Coffin Cliff), an ancient cultural site perched above the forest. Continue to the View Point for panoramic vistas of the valley before descending to the refreshing Jacuzzi Pool, a natural rock pool perfect for a cool dip. 

12:30 Hrs: Return to the lodge for a leisurely lunch. 

15:00 Hrs: Choose between another guided trek deeper into the rainforest or a more relaxed activity: rafting down the Danum River. Cruise along gentle currents surrounded by towering trees and birdsong. 

19:00 Hrs: Dinner at the lodge, featuring a blend of local and international flavours. 

20:30 Hrs: Join your guide for a night walk on the lodge trails. With torchlight in hand, discover nocturnal species such as frogs, insects, and the occasional slow loris.

Day 3 - Check Out / Lahad Datu

08:00 Hrs: After breakfast, enjoy a slow morning and soak in the last sounds of the rainforest. 

11:30 Hrs: Check out and have lunch at the lodge before departing on the 2.5-hour transfer back to Lahad Datu Airport, marking the end of your rainforest and reef adventure.

Before departing from Lahad Datu, you may ask your driver to bring you to a local shop to buy "adidas kampung" (rubber trekking shoes) – the recommended shoes for trekking through Borneo tropical rainforest. 

  • Blue Rings Reef is an open water environment. Snorkellers can enjoy the site, but a valid Open Water Diving License is required for divers. 
  • The snorkelling activity is suitable for people aged 12 and above. 
  • Please ensure you are holding air ticket to Lahad Datu.
