Sample itinerary

Day 1 - Sandakan / MY Nature Resort / (Optional) Rainforest Discovery Centre / Flying Squirrel Platform / Night Walk

By 15:00 hrs: Arrive in Sandakan by flight. Upon arrival, meet your driver and transfer to MY Nature Resort in Sepilok, approximately a 25-to-30-minute drive. Check in and settle into your rainforest-surrounded accommodation. 

In the late afternoon, enjoy free time at the resort. You may relax in the natural surroundings or take a swim in the resort’s swimming pool, which is specially designed to face the rainforest. 

A shuttle van is provided for anyone interested in visiting the nearby Rainforest Discovery Centre, where you can explore their orchid garden and venture across the Canopy Walkway. 

Before 18:00 hrs: Proceed to The Flying Squirrel Platform within the resort grounds to observe small rainforest creatures as they become active during the early evening. 

After Dinner: If weather permits, join a guided night walk along the MY Nature Boardwalk located behind the resort. Accompanied by a guide, explore the rainforest after dark and learn about nocturnal wildlife that inhabits the area.

Day 2 - Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre / Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre / Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary / Departure

08:00 hrs to 09:00 hrs: After breakfast, proceed to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. 

10:00 hrs: Witness the orangutan feeding session at the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. 

10:30 hrs: Visit the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, located adjacent to the orangutan centre, to learn about conservation efforts for the world’s smallest bear. 

11:45 hrs: Depart Sepilok and return to MY Nature Resort for lunch. 

13:30 hrs: Travel to Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary. 

14:30 hrs: Observe the proboscis monkey feeding session and learn about the species and its habitat. 

15:30 hrs: Depart Labuk Bay and transfer back to your hotel in Sandakan or to Sandakan Airport for flights departing after 1800hrs.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

  • Please ensure you are holding an air ticket to Sandakan. Flights are not included in this package. 
  • This is a nature-based experience, and guests should expect insects and forest sounds, especially at night. 
  • Walking distances are generally short and manageable, making the tour suitable for families and seniors. 
  • Flights to Sandakan should be scheduled to arrive before 1400hrs on Day 1. 
  • Flights departing Sandakan should be scheduled after 1800hrs on Day 2. 
  • Travel insurance is not included and is strongly recommended. 
  • Effective as of 1st September 2017, the Tourism and Culture Ministry of Malaysia has implemented a Malaysian Tourism Tax (TTx). Foreign tourists are required to pay a flat rate of MYR 10 per room per night regardless of accommodation star level. The TTx is to be paid upon check-in. Malaysians or permanent residents residing in Malaysia are exempted from TTx and are required to present a valid identification upon check-in for the exemption.
