Sample itinerary

Day 1 - Selingan Turtle Island / Turtle Hatchery

09:00 Hrs: Your day of adventure begins with a pick-up from your hotel lobby or Sandakan Airport, followed by a transfer to the Crystal Quest Jetty. 

09:30 Hrs: Hop aboard a boat for a scenic voyage to Selingan Turtle Island. The boat departs at 10:00 Hrs.

Upon arrival, indulge in a day of exploration on Selingan Turtle Island. Enjoy activities like swimming and snorkelling (subject to weather conditions). 

As the sun sets, witness a remarkable natural phenomenon as sea turtles come ashore to lay their eggs. Experience the transfer of these precious eggs to the hatchery and the heartwarming release of hatchlings into the sea. 

Retreat to the comforts of your chalet for a restful night’s sleep.

Day 2 - Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre / Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre / Borneo Natural Sukau Bilit Resort / Kinabatangan River Cruise

07:00 Hrs: After breakfast, check out and transfer to Sandakan. 

Pay a visit to the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre, established in 1964 to rehabilitate orphaned and displaced orang utans. Here, you can observe these iconic creatures in their natural dipterocarp forest habitat.  

Continue your journey to the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, where you'll witness adorable sun bears playing in their open-air forest enclosures. The centre provides a temporary home for sun bears as they are being prepared for life back in the wild. 

12:45 Hrs: After a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, embark on a 2½ hour drive to Kinabatangan River. 

Upon arrival at the Borneo Natural Sukau Bilit Resort, enjoy some welcome refreshments while your guide provides a safety briefing. 

16:00 Hrs: Set off on a river cruise to spot proboscis monkeys, orangutans, pygmy elephants, macaques, and other fascinating wildlife. 

Dinner and a night walk await back at Borneo Natural Sukau Bilit Resort.

Day 3 - Kinabatangan River Cruise (AM) / Guided Jungle Walk / Kinabatangan River Cruise (PM)

Embark on an early morning cruise along the Kinabatangan River to witness the rainforest coming to life. 

After breakfast, trek through the jungle with your experienced guide to discover the rich flora and fauna.  

Return to the resort for lunch and leisure time before an afternoon river adventure to spot more wildlife and birds. 

Enjoy your dinner at Borneo Natural Sukau Bilit Resort before heading out on another night walk in search of nocturnal mammals.

Day 4 - Kinabatangan River Cruise / Sandakan

Begin your day with another morning cruise along the Kinabatangan River to witness nature's surprises at sunrise. 

08:20 Hrs: After breakfast, bid farewell to Borneo Natural Sukau Bilit Resort and embark on your return journey to Sandakan. 

Your adventure concludes with a drop-off at your hotel in Sandakan or at the Sandakan Airport, leaving you with cherished memories of your Borneo rainforest and river expedition.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

  • Please ensure you are holding an air ticket to Sandakan.
  • If you are arriving at Sandakan Airport on the day of your tour, our friendly guide will greet and pick you up from the airport with a placard bearing your good name.
  • For Selingan Island:
    • For your arrival on Day 1, please take note there is only 1 join-in boat transfer to Selingan Island departing at 1000hrs daily. Please ensure you are in Sandakan by 0900hrs for the pick-up transfer to the jetty. 
    • In the event that you are unable to get an early morning flight, your itinerary may be revised to suit your flight arrival timing and surcharges may apply. Please check with your sales representative.
    • The boat journey to Selingan Island may not be suitable for individuals who have any of the following conditions but not limited to: heart or lung conditions, recent surgery, back or spinal surgery, back problems/injury/fracture, arthritis, osteoporosis or other similar spinal/pelvic diseases. Pregnant women are also not recommended as the boat ride may be bumpy depending on the sea condition. If you are having similar issues as above, kindly consult your physician before you enrol in this activity.
    • Selingan Island rooms are furnished with two single beds and basic amenities, including air conditioning, ceiling fans, private bathrooms with standing showers, and towels. Please note that hot water is not available.
    • The chalets are located approximately 600 meters from the beach. As there are no porters on the island, guests are required to carry their own luggage from the boat to the chalet. For ease of travel, we recommend bringing only the essentials for your one-night stay.
    • A secure locker is available at the jetty for luggage storage. Guests may leave their bags there upon arrival and collect them the following morning.
    • Snorkelling equipment is not available for rent on Selingan Island. Snorkels can be purchased at the jetty for RM30.00 each, or you may bring your own snorkelling gear.
  • Standard check-in and check-out times for most hotels & resorts are 14:00 Hrs & 12:00 Hrs. However, check-in & check-out times may vary depending on each accommodation. So kindly check with us to get accurate check-in & check-out times of your accommodation.
  • Effective as of 1st September 2017, the Tourism and Culture Ministry of Malaysia implemented a Malaysian Tourism Tax (TTX). Foreign tourists will be required to pay a flat rate of MYR 10 per room per night regardless of accommodation star level. The TTx is to be paid upon check-in. Malaysians or permanent residents residing in Malaysia are exempted from TTx and is required to present a valid identification upon check-in for the exemption.
