Sample itinerary

Day 1 - Kota Kinabalu / Kinabalu Park HQ

Begin your Mount Kinabalu adventure with pickup from the Sabah Tourism Board building before heading on a scenic 2-hour journey towards Kinabalu Park Headquarters. 

Travel through charming countryside villages and enjoy panoramic views of the Crocker Range along the way. 

A short stop will be made at Nabalu Market, a popular roadside market where local communities sell fresh produce, tropical fruits, handicrafts, and traditional souvenirs. 

Upon arrival at Kinabalu Park HQ, check into your private twin shared room and enjoy the cool mountain atmosphere. 

The rest of the day is free for you to relax, mingle with fellow climbers, or prepare for the climb ahead. 

Dinner will be served at a local restaurant before overnight stay at Kinabalu Park HQ.

Day 2 - Kinabalu Park HQ / Timpohon Gate / Panalaban Base Camp

Enjoy breakfast at Liwagu Restaurant before collecting your packed lunch for the climb. 

Afterwards, proceed to Kinabalu Park Headquarters for registration. Your mountain guide will assist with the necessary climbing arrangements, including permit registration and issuance of your climber ID tag. 

Once ready, transfer to Timpohon Gate, the starting point of your Mount Kinabalu ascent. 

Trek through one of Borneo’s most biodiverse mountain environments, passing through changing vegetation zones ranging from lowland oak and chestnut forests to mossy forests and alpine landscapes. The climb to Panalaban Base Camp at 3,272 metres typically takes around 4 to 5 hours depending on fitness level and pace. 

Upon arrival, check into your mountain accommodation and enjoy a hearty buffet dinner at Laban Rata Restaurant before resting for your summit climb.

Day 3 - Low’s Peak Summit / Descend Mount Kinabalu / Kota Kinabalu

02:00 hrs: Wake up in the early hours for a light supper before continuing your final ascent towards Low’s Peak, the highest point of Mount Kinabalu at 4,095.2 metres above sea level. 

The summit climb is both physically rewarding and unforgettable, especially as you witness the breathtaking sunrise over the mountains if weather conditions permit. 

After spending time at the summit for photos and celebration, descend back to Panalaban Base Camp for a late breakfast and check-out. 

Continue your descent to Timpohon Gate where a transfer will bring you back to Kinabalu Park Headquarters. 

Upon completion, climbers may collect their Certificate of Achievement as a memorable keepsake of the climb. 

Lunch will be served at a local restaurant before departing for the return journey back to Kota Kinabalu City.

Note on Meals Arrangement:

1) Dinner will be converted to packed dinner on Day 01 (Arrival Day) for any arrival to the Park HQ after 21:00hrs. Please enquire with us regarding the dinner arrangement if your flight arrival to Kota Kinabalu is during the evening.

2)*Lunch will be converted to a packed meal for all climbers who reach the local restaurant after 16:00hrs on DAY 03 (Mt Kinabalu descent).

  • Effective 1 April 2019, the accommodation for Day 1 of this climb package will be based on Run-Of-House (ROH) basis, which means the room given is determined by provider, according to availability, at the time of check-in. A Private Twin-Share Room will be arranged in any accommodation within Kinabalu Park HQ.
  • Climbers who reach Timpohon Gate after 16:30 Hrs will be imposed a fee of MYR 15 per hour per guide and need to pay directly to the mountain guide on the spot.
  • Tipping is like giving a hug. Although it’s never expected, it’s always very much appreciated.
  • Do take note that your MyKad (for Malaysian) / Passport (for Non-Malaysian) will be required for verification during registration at the Kinabalu Park office. Please bring it along with you.
  • Laban Rata Resthouse does NOT provide boiled water for drinking/refill to climbers. Coffee & Tea will only be provided complimentary during Breakfast & Supper. However, mineral water, coffee, tea, and other hot drinks and Soft Drinks are still available for purchase at the Grocery Counter (Laban Rata Resthouse).
  • Pendant Hut provides filtered hot water for drinking/refill to climbers.
  • Check-out time for Laban Rata Resthouse is 10:00 Hrs.  Should you check out later than 10:30 Hrs, a Late Check Out Fee of MYR100/hour applies, to be paid directly on the spot.
  • Effective as of 1st September 2017, the Tourism and Culture Ministry of Malaysia will be implementing a Malaysian Tourism Tax (TTX). Foreign tourists will be required to pay a flat rate of MYR 10 per room per night regardless of accommodation star level. The TTx is to be paid upon check-in. Malaysians or permanent residents residing in Malaysia are exempted from TTx and is required to present a valid identification upon check-in for the exemption.
  • Effective 1 January 2026, the use of single-use plastic bags is strictly prohibited in all Sabah Parks. This policy is implemented to safeguard the natural environment and protect both marine and forest ecosystems from pollution and long-term harm. Visitors are required to bring their own reusable eco bags when entering any Sabah Parks area.
  • Please call the hotline number in your itinerary if you are not able to locate your guide.
  • It is best to avoid scheduling your flight on the same day as your mountain descent as delays may occur due to injuries, fatigue, bad weather, or traffic.
  • The meeting point is at Sabah Tourism Board Building in Kota Kinabalu City at 12:30 Hrs. Latecomers will need to arrange their own transport to Kinabalu Park and meet our team before 09:00 Hrs on climbing day for registration.
  • The drop-off point is at Sabah Tourism Board Building in Kota Kinabalu city.
  • Kindly note that there will be no alternative transport if you miss the scheduled pick-up.
  • After descending to Kinabalu Park HQ, we will schedule your return transport the latest by 19:30 Hrs. We will ensure your waiting time will not be longer than 2 hours. If you missed the last transport or prefer to depart at your own timing, we are able to arrange a private transfer with an additional surcharge (subject to availability).
  • If you want a private guide with a hotel pick-up/drop-off at your KK City hotel, we recommend booking ABK-MK02 instead.

It is recommended that all climbers should have themselves medically checked before attempting any mountain climb. If you have a history of suffering from the following ailments, it is highly recommend that you should refrain from climbing: Hypertension, Diabetes, Palpitation, Arthritis, Heart disease, severe anemia, Peptic ulcers, Epileptic fits, Obesity (overweight), Chronic asthma, Muscular cramps, Hepatitis (jaundice); or any other disease which may hamper the climber.

Children below 15 years old must fill in the indemnity form upon registration at Park Headquarters.
